Denim Trimmed Match Holder

Here is another great use of recycled denim hem strips from your old jeans. This project uses a strip of hem along with a recycled glass jar to make a handy match holder. Take the screw-on lid from the jar and drill a hole into the lid top for the match opening. Then using the lid as a template, trace around it on a piece of sandpaper. Cut out the sandpaper and glue it onto the lid top as shown.

Here is the top with the sandpaper glued on the lid.

Here is a closeup on the inside of the lid.

Cut a length of denim hem from a recycled pair of jeans and trim it close to the hem line. To get the correct length of denim,

Crocheted Baby Vest and Hat Set

Crocheted Baby Vest and Hat Set

Using my Ana sweater vest pattern, I crocheted this baby vest using a sport weight yarn vintage yarn called Von-Cott in baby blue. I followed the exact pattern directions using 2 skeins or 3.5 ounces of the sport weight yarn. Finished vest size should fit a 6-12 month baby with measurements 9-1/2 inches wide by 12 inches long.

Here is a closeup of the baby sweater vest.

I also crocheted a ribbed band hat using the vintage Von-Cott yarn. I followed the child’s size crocheted ribbed hat pattern. I needed to make the hat just a bit larger as I was using the sport weight yarn and a G (4 mm) hook. So I followed the child’s pattern details through round 5.
