If you read my last post, you know that I have been busy crocheting Mother Bears for the organization that sends teddy bears to children in foreign countries. I crocheted a Mother Bear hoodie on one teddy bear and then crocheted this girl bear with a skirt and bloomers.

This bear and her clothing were crocheted using medium weight acrylic yarn. The basic bear was crocheted using the seamless crochet bear pattern found at the Mother Bear Project site. My pattern details are a guideline for adding the skirt and bloomers but make sure you check your fit on your bear as you crochet.

I crocheted the skirt with a G (4 mm) crochet hook. Attach at back of waist on bear and follow pattern directions below. I crocheted the skirt working from the waist down and crocheted with the bear upside down as I added the skirt.

Mother Bear Skirt Pattern
Row 1
Attach yarn and single crochet (Sc) in each stitch around at waistline.
Row 2
Sc in 1st st *Ch 1, Skip 1 st, Sc in next st*. Repeat between * and join with slip stitch ( Sl St) to 1st st of row to form a circle. Work in rounds from this point on without turning.
Row 3
Ch 2, work 2 half double crochet (Hdc) in same space between joining. Work 3 Hdc in ea Ch-1 sp around. Join with Sl St to beg Ch-2. (18-Hdc shells)
Row 4
Ch 3, Dc, Ch 1, 2 Dc in same space between shell (3-Hdc’s of prior row). Then 2 Dc, Ch 1, 2 Dc in each space between shells around. End with Sl St to beg Ch-3.
Row 5-8
Sl St to Ch-1 space, Ch 3, Dc, Ch 1, 2 Dc in Ch-1 space. Continue working Dc shells (2 Dc, Ch 1, 2 Dc), in each Ch-1 sp around. Join to top of beg Ch-3 at end of round.

Edging: Attach contrasting yarn at lower hem back edge and Sc in each stitch and space around bottom edge of top. Join with Sl St to 1st Sc.

Skirt is 3 inches long.

Here are the little bloomers or underwear I crocheted for my Missy Mother Bear.

Mother Bear Bloomers Pattern
Round 1
With a G (4 mm) crochet hook chain 29 and join to make circle.
Round 2-3
Sc in each stitch of round. Don’t join and just work the bloomers in the round. Use a stitch marker to keep track of the start of each round if necessary.
Round 4
*Sc in next 2 sts, 2 Sc in next st* Repeat between * around.
Round 5-12
Sc in each stitch around. On final row, Sc in center to join for the crotch.
Bloomers are 2-1/2 long and 3-1/2 wide at waist and 4-1/2 wide at legs. Leg openings are about 2-1/4 wide. ( 21 sts each)
