Here is a new free crochet hat pattern to share. It is a basic double crochet bulky hat that can be crocheted using chunky yarn or 2 strands of worst weight held together. The pattern is simple and works up very quickly. Please enjoy my free crochet pattern!

Bulky Double Crochet Hat Pattern

Finished adult hat measures flat: 21″ circumference by 8.5″ long
Hook: N (9 mm) US sized crochet hook or K hook if you crochet loosely
Materials: 3 ozs Bulky yarn or use 2 strands worsted weight yarn together; and
Small amount of contrasting color for edging (if desired)

Rnd 1
Begin with a Magic Circle to start and work 7 DC in circle and join to top of first DC. (7 sts)
Pull tight your ring to close the hole.
Rnd 2
Ch 2, DC in same st and 2 DC in each st around. Join with Sl St to beg Ch-2. (14 sts)
(Ch-2 counts as first st.)
Rnd 3
Ch 2, DC in same st and 2 DC in each st around. Join with Sl St to beg Ch-2. (28 sts)
Rnd 4
Ch 2, 2 DC in next st, *DC in the next st, 2 DC in next st*. Repeat between * around. Join with Sl St to beg Ch-2. (42 sts)
Rnd 5
Ch 2, DC in each st around. Join with Sl St to beg Ch-2. (42 sts)
Check that your disk is about 7 inches across at this point. If not you may want to add a few additional stitches.
Rnd 6-12
Ch 2, DC in each st around. Join with Sl St to beg Ch-2. (42 sts)
Length should be at least 8 inches or 8.25” long at this point. If using 2 strands of worst weight yarn, you may want to stop at 11 rounds depending on your yarn and how loose you crochet.
Rnd 13 (edging) Use contrasting yarn if desired.
Ch 1, SC in each st around. Join to beg SC. (42 sts)
Rnd 14
Ch 1, SC in back loops only (BLO) in each st around. (42 sts)
Join to beg SC and FO. Weave under ends.
