Christmas in July Stockings
Happy 4th of July! It’s a perfect time of the year to celebrate the 4th and Christmas in July with stockings. Of course stockings this time of year honor our country and our troops.
As we continue to make mini Christmas stockings for Warmth for Warriors, here are my latest using red, white, and blue yarn to crochet stockings. I used the fold-over option of this 6 inch Christmas stocking pattern to crochet these stockings.
Mods from original pattern: Work the toe portion of the crochet pattern as written in blue yarn, then switch to either white or red yarn and chain 8 for the upper leg. Work 2 rows in each color and just carry the unused color behind your work. Pick up the new color and drop the old one, every 2 rows for 10 rows. Remember to work 2 decreases at heel for the last 2 rows as the original pattern is written.
For the fold-over top trim, attach yarn at back and work from the inside. Single crochet (SC) around the top edge, then working in back loops only (BLO), SC around again. Now switch and crocheting through both loops SC around 3 more times and finish off. Fold over cuff as shown.
Attach yarn at top back edge and chain 10 and join to next stitch at back edge. Hide your ends on the underside of the cuff to complete your hanging loop.
So if you enjoy making Christmas stockings, why not join us and make a few patriotic mini Christmas stockings for our troops to receive this coming Christmas. Our goal is 4000 this year and we are so excited to announce that 3648 stockings already have been received at Warmth for Warriors headquarter this year!
