I had the opportunity to participate this year in Operation Christmas Child. Shoeboxes are filled with toys, school supplies, and personal care items for children for Christmas. The boxes are sent all around the world to many different places to bless the children and share the gospel.
Our women’s bible study got together and filled 53 boxes this year. Many of us made handmade gifts as well as store-bought goodies to fill the boxes. I crocheted two teddy bear dolls. Here is my girly bear with a skirt that I crocheted. The skirt crochet pattern for this doll is found here.
Next photo is of my bare bear doll. These bare or PJ bears are fun and quick to crochet. They make some cute teddy bear dolls for children.
I finally got my Mojo back after several years and crocheted two Mother Bears. Each month over at the Mother Bear group on Ravelry, they feature a theme. Wonderful women was the theme for March. I crocheted Diana bear in honor of my SIL who passed away and who was such a wonderful, warm, and loving person. Here is Diana bear dressed up using the free Mother Bear flower dress pattern.
Next is Aurora bear for the Aurora Borealis or Northern Lights. This Red Heart Stripes yarn worked out just right for reflecting this month’s theme of sky items.
Here is my latest Mother Bear for the Mother Bear Project. This PJ bear was crocheted using the seamless crochet option. This PJ bear is waving her flag in honor of Flag Day.
You can read more about my seamless Mother Bear option, which is crocheted without turning or joining here.
Happy Flag Day everyone!
The Mother Bear Project is featuring striped bears for April. With the extra time I have this month with the stay at home order due to the Coronavirus, I crocheted two mother bears.
This bear has a striped skirt that I crocheted using this bear skirt pattern. My bears are crocheted seamless without joining and done in rounds. This bear was done in BLO (back loop only) single crochet except for the head. I have experimented and think the head looks better crocheted through both loops in single crochet.
Now here is a striped bare bear crocheted using Red Heart Stripe yarn in colorway Parrot Stripe. This little guy was crocheted in BLO for the entire bear. As you can see his head appears smaller and not a nice looking as the first bear. I think if I added more stitches the head would look better in BLO so I may try that next time.
If you are new to the Mother Bear Project, you can find the Ravelry group here. The Mother Bear Project is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing comfort and hope to children, primarily those affected by HIV/AIDS and by giving them a gift of love in a handmade teddy bear.

It is always fun to crochet Mother Bears for the Mother Bear Project. Here are two recently completed bears.
This bear is pretty in pink with her flower skirt that was crocheted using this skirt pattern.
Next is a bare bear crocheted in Red Heart vintage retro stripes colorway.

Here is a new Mother Bear idea that I wanted to share. Add a flower skirt to your bear. I crocheted this Mother Bear body all in BLO and added this skirt to finish off my bear. The head is crocheted in both loops.
This bear was crocheted using Red Heart yarn in a Flamenco stripe skein to crochet the Mother Bear. Then I added a skirt around the waist using some plum Love This Cotton yarn. I had just a small piece of the Flamenco stripe yarn left in pink so used that for the reverse SC trim around the bottom of the skirt.
Directions for skirt:
Starting at back of bear for attaching row, single crochet (SC) around the waist of the bear to start the skirt and join to beginning. *Ch 2 and working in the round and without turning, work 1 Double Crochet (DC) in next stitch then 2 DC in next stitch*. Repeat around and join with slip stitch to top of chain 2.
I love crocheting little doll dresses. They work up so quickly and only require a small amount of yarn to complete. I used my doll heart dress and added a flare skirt for a different look to the final crocheted dress project.
Here is a closeup of the crocheted heart that adorns this little doll dress. Scroll down below to find the free crochet pattern details for the yellow baby doll dress.
Here is a recycled sock that I made into a Barbie doll dress. I kept this very simple with no sewing. I crocheted the top yoke and straps using a E crochet hook with some fingering yarn.
I used a wool sock that was torn and cut off the bottom as shown below.
I folded over the cut edge of the sock and joined my fingering yarn at the back with a slip stitch. Next I just crocheted around the top edge of the sock by poking my crochet hook into the sock edge and completing each stitch. I worked around the sock edge evenly with single crochet (SC) stitches. I worked my stitches fairly tight as the sock opening was plenty wide enough for the doll. I had 40 stitches around the top edge of the sock.
Next without turning I just joined with a slip stitch to the beginning first stitch. Chain 1 and continued
Here is a small ripple baby doll blanket I crocheted. I used my wavy ripple blanket pattern and just crocheted a shorter starting chain. This wavy ripple pattern is very adaptable as I have made dishcloths using the same pattern and baby afghans.
The blanket measures 20 inches wide by 11 inches long. I would have made the blanket longer but I only had about 2-3 ounces of the old vintage variegated yarn I was using. It still worked fine for this 11 inch tall baby doll as a blanket wrap.
