I had the opportunity to participate this year in Operation Christmas Child. Shoeboxes are filled with toys, school supplies, and personal care items for children for Christmas. The boxes are sent all around the world to many different places to bless the children and share the gospel.
Our women’s bible study got together and filled 53 boxes this year. Many of us made handmade gifts as well as store-bought goodies to fill the boxes. I crocheted two teddy bear dolls. Here is my girly bear with a skirt that I crocheted. The skirt crochet pattern for this doll is found here.
Next photo is of my bare bear doll. These bare or PJ bears are fun and quick to crochet.They make some cute teddy bear dolls for children.
Here is an old hat pattern with a new twist. This hat features a crab stitch trim for the final row of edging. Thus a new hat style with a twist!
I used my free BLO hat pattern to crochet the complete hat following the original crochet pattern. Then for one additional row of trim, I crocheted a final row of crab stitches. Crab stitch is just reverse single crochet stitches worked from left to right which creates a twisted look to the project.

This post presents my basic back loops only (BLO) hat pattern. As you may know, I crochet lots of hats for charity and wanted to have a basic crocheted hat pattern that is worked all in back loops only. The textured look of working all in back loops makes for a raised stitch line on each round.
It is my hope that you will enjoy this pattern and crochet a few hats for your charity of choice using it. So without further ado, here is my free crochet pattern for my back loops only adult hat.
Back Loops Only (BLO) Basic Hat Pattern
Finished adult hat measures flat: 21 inch circumference by 8.25 inches long
Hook: H (5 mm) US sized crochet hook
Materials: 2.5 ozs Wool or Worsted Weight Yarn; and
Small amount of contrasting color for edging (if desired)
With H hook, Ch 4 and join to form ring. (Or use a Magic Circle to start.)
(Ch-2 counts as first Hdc st.)
Here is a new Mother Bear idea that I wanted to share. Add a flower skirt to your bear. I crocheted this Mother Bear body all in BLO and added this skirt to finish off my bear. The head is crocheted in both loops.
This bear was crocheted using Red Heart yarn in a Flamenco stripe skein to crochet the Mother Bear. Then I added a skirt around the waist using some plum Love This Cotton yarn. I had just a small piece of the Flamenco stripe yarn left in pink so used that for the reverse SC trim around the bottom of the skirt.
Directions for skirt:
Starting at back of bear for attaching row, single crochet (SC) around the waist of the bear to start the skirt and join to beginning. *Ch 2 and working in the round and without turning, work 1 Double Crochet (DC) in next stitch then 2 DC in next stitch*. Repeat around and join with slip stitch to top of chain 2.
I have a new mini Christmas stocking pattern to share here at My Recycled Bags. This stocking is crocheted all in the back loop only or BLO as the commonly known abbreviation in the crocheting world.
The pattern can be worked in worst weight yarns for a 6 inch long stocking from top to toe. Or if you use an Aran or light weight yarn, the stockings measure about 5.5 inches long using a G (4 mm) crochet hook. I have shared a few photos here of the basic pattern, but feel free to crochet this pattern in stripes, work the first few rounds of the toe in a different color or even make a scrap yarn stocking by crocheting a mash of colors.
