Here are two Christmas towels that I bought at the Dollar Store. They make wonderful holiday themed towels by adding a crocheted towel topper with a jingle bell.
I used the double layered towel topper pattern that is a free crochet pattern.
I did work the handle on 8 stitches just because this 24/7 cotton yarn is thin. This gives the handle a bit more strength for hanging it up. For the buttonhole, I crocheted 2 chains and skipped 2 stitches for the space for the jingle bell. Depending on the size of the button or jingle bell you use, just adjust your stitches to make the hole big enough for the size you need.
Here is one more photo of the other Christmas towel topper.
Here is a project where you use a store-bought potholder and add a crocheted towel to it. I’ve seen other similar projects that you sew a towel to the potholder to create the combo but not crocheted.
The hard part is crocheting the base row across the middle of the potholder. You want to fold the potholder in half and mark the center with a pencil mark. Then you crochet across the marked line in single crochet (SC) stitches evenly. I used a steel #9 crochet hook to poke the holes and pull the yarn through the holes. This process is hard and takes patience. You need to push and wiggle through the potholder to make the holes and then draw the yarn up to complete the SC stitch.
Once you have the base row complete, crocheting the remainder of kitchen towel is super easy.
Here are more photos of the potholder with both sides showing.

I picked up this pretty holiday towel at Family Dollar for just $2 dollars. It’s a nice thick towel that was just calling to me for a Christmas towel topper.
I crocheted this towel topper using the waffle towel topper pattern. I had some light weight misc yarn that was just the right shade of red. As the yarn was thin, I held two strands together to crochet the topper.
This towel topper is double-layered and requires no cutting or sewing to start the project. You simply fold over the towel and begin the towel topper along the top edge of the towel. I love these towels as they are sturdy kitchen towels and make for a lovely Christmas gift.

Here are several Dollar Store bar towels that I have added towel toppers to. I love the thick and absorbent towels but they are a odd width to do a normal double-layer crocheted towel topper. I tried this first one where I didn’t fold over the towel and just crocheted the towel topper along the top edge. It makes for a longer kitchen towel and not sure if I like it or not. This towel topper was crocheted using the waffle towel topper pattern.
Next I folded the towel in half lengthwise. I then added a crocheted towel topper through both layers with the fold on the left hand side. This created a nice thick double layered towel but again I’m not sure about the foldline being on the side.
Here is a closeup of the crocheted towel topper which was created using the pointed handle towel topper pattern.
So what do you think about these Dollar Store bar towel projects? I’d love to hear people’s thoughts and
I crocheted another double layered towel topper which is similar to my pointed handle towel topper. The main difference in this towel topper is that it’s a heavier, more basic pattern for the topper. It has a waffle looking texture to the pattern and so I named it the Waffle Towel Topper pattern.
This towel topper is crocheted using sugar n’cream weight cotton yarn with a G crochet hook. I used a kitchen towel folded in half that requires no cutting or sewing. For more details on how to fold and start a double layered towel topper, see this tutorial link with pictures on how to begin the towel topper.
