Recycled Valentines Projects

February 11, 2024 No comments yet

I wanted to revisited some of my recycled Valentine’s themed projects. Over the years, I have crocheted and sewn several fun projects that might inspire some of you to try these for Valentine’s Day. Plus it’s eye candy for any plarn and denim lovers out there.

Here is a recycled plastic Valentine’s card holder that adults and children can both make together. It uses some pieces of red and white recycled plastic bags, scrap yarn, ribbon and a small remnant of red felt to make. The full picture tutorial and directions can be found at the fused plastic Valentine’s heart link.

Here is a little Valentine’s basket that is crocheted using recycled plastic bags or plarn.

This little basket or bag could be used to hold Valentine cards or as a little gift bag for a loved one. The free pattern is found here.

I promised some recycled denim projects and here are a few cute little purses to share.

Heart Dishcloth

Here is one more quick heart project I just completed in honor of Valentine’s Day. This is a cute and easy pattern worked in the round or should I say heart-shape. It is all worked on the right side without turning. My finished size is 8 inches wide using a G (4 mm) crochet hook.

I crocheted my cloth using a small amount of scrap red Christmas cotton that contains a silver metallic thread throughout. The free heart dishcloth pattern by Janelle Schlossman is no longer on her blog site. But you can find the pattern still here by using the Wayback Machine on the web.

I thought I remember crocheting this pattern before and sure enough I crocheted it 10 years ago. Here is that heart cloth with a white contrasting yarn for trim.

Fused Plastic Valentine’s Heart

Here is a quick fused plastic bag craft idea for Valentine’s Day. This project involves no sewing or crocheting. It’s makes a perfect kid’s craft project that focuses on using recycled materials. This project was inspired by a recent comment I received from someone who wanted a recycled bag for Valentine’s day but didn’t know how to crochet. So here’s what I came up with. By using some pieces of red and white recycled plastic bags, some scrap yarn, a bit of ribbon and a small remnant of red felt, you or your children can put together this cute Valentine’s heart bag.

Below you will find the picture tutorial that I made while I was creating this little Valentine’s heart bag. Here is the step-by-step picture tutorial on how to DIY.

Free Recycled Valentines Bag Pattern

With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, here is a cute recycled plastic Valentine’s heart bag that you can crochet. It’s made from recycled plastic grocery bags into a handy bag that can hold Valentine cards. When I designed this recycled bag, I had a little girl in mind and thought she could use it to take all her Valentines to school in.

It would also make a cute gift bag for Valentine’s Day. You could fill it with candy and a card and give it to your favorite Valentine. A bonus of course is that this plarn bag could be used as a little purse all year long.

Here is the free crochet pattern so you too can create this fun little Valentine’s Day heart bag!
