Cute Plarn Snowman

Check out this cute plarn snowman which was crocheted from recycled plastic bags. This project is being shared here at my crafting blog with permission from Snowcatcher who is the creator of this adorable snowman. Christmas Plarn Stocking Pattern

Here is the long awaited Christmas stocking made from recycled plastic bags or plarn. People have been asking for a Christmas stocking pattern to crochet using recycled plastic bags for the last several Christmas seasons. So I finally tackled the project and finished up the eco-friendly stocking as shown in the picture.

Free Christmas Plarn Stocking Pattern

Materials needed:
One ball of plastic bag yarn aka Plarn
Approx. 25-30 plastic grocery bags
1 oz. of scrap red yarn

Hooks:
N (9 mm) U.S. size metal hook for stocking
H (5 mm) U.S. size crochet hook for trim

Description: Plastic Bag Plarn Christmas Stocking
Stocking measures 7 inches wide and 18 inches long with a 2 inch hanging loop

Open Mesh Magic Dishcloth

Here is my Open Mesh Magic Dishcloth. I created this crocheted dishcloth pattern with an open stitch design and it was named with the help of my crochet friends over at Crochetville.

1/4 oz contrasting Cotton yarn for trim

Recycled Flat Bottom Plastic Tote Bag

This week I present my recycled plastic flat bottom tote bag. This tote bag features a wide flat bottom so it is very roomy and can stand up. I also added regular worst yarn to the handles for color and to make the handles more comfortable when you carry this bag on your shoulder or by hand.

Here is a closeup the bag bottom so you can see how this bag is worked in rounds, without seams and is flat.


You can add a piece of cardboard or plastic canvas for extra strength and stability to the bottom. Here is a photo with a piece of cardboard added. You can click on any of the photos to super-size them for more details.

Flat Bottom Recycled Tote Bag Pattern

Materials needed:
One very large ball of plastic bag yarn orPlarn
Approx. 60 plastic grocery bags

Hooks: N (9 mm) U.S. size metal hook for bag
H (5 mm) Hook for trim

Description: Recycled Flat Bottom Plastic Tote Bag
Bag measures 15 inches wide and 13 inches long with 14 inches handles and 6″ wide at base

Directions:
Using N hook, Ch 22.

T-Yarn Pot Handle Cover

This recycled craft project was created by me out of necessity. I needed a pot handle cover for my old cast iron skillet. The handle gets hot and I wanted a sleeve type cover that I could just leave on the skillet. Well I grabbed some curled t-yarn or tarn and started crocheting. Here are my two finished t-yarn skillet covers.

Maybe you haven’t heard about t-yarn yet. Well it’s yarn you create from old recycled t-shirts. You take the t-shirts and cut them into long continuous strips. I then stretch it which causes the t-yarn to curl in on itself. Here is a picture tutorial if you’d like to make your own t-yarn.

The nice thing about t-yarn or tarn is that it stretches and fits snugly on my skillet handle. I also wanted to make one using regular rug so I crocheted this handle cover using some thrift store black rug yarn.

So whether you’d like to crochet your handle cover using recycled materials or regular yarn, here is the free pattern and details below. This pattern is easily adaptable for pots and skillets of different sizes. It’s a very easy pattern with simple stitches that works up quickly. Materials:
1 oz) T-yarn cut about 1/2″ wide and stretched or chunky rug yarn

Hook: J (6 mm) crochet hook

Using T-yarn or regular yarn, ch 10 and join with Sl St to form a ring.
