Here is the long awaited recycled plastic bag sandals. Many people have been asking for just such a pattern and with the help of another recycled crafter Tera, I was able to finish up this sandal pattern. Tera’s original design has a back strap and I’m still working on that version. I will be adding that option later on another pair of sandals that I will crochet in a smaller size so that I will a few different sizes in this sandal project.
This version of the recycled sandals could also be used as an indoor/outdoor type slipper. I like it because I can just slip it on and go. Kinda like flip flops but I can still wear my socks too.
As always I hope you enjoy the free crochet pattern and happy crocheting to all!

As promised in my last post, here is my striped shell handbag purse that is crocheted from recycled plastic bags. I changed colors of plastic bags every round to create this unique looking shell stitch purse. I did 16 rounds and each round takes about 2 to 2-1/2 bags to complete each different colored row. Also this is my first experience using store purchased purse handles. I splurged and bought these as they were on clearance for $2.00. I think they really compliment the handbag and along with the lining, make this a really beautiful and fashionable upcycled handbag.

I’m excited to share with you all my recycled plastic bracelet that was crocheted from bread bags and plastic packaging material. I just love the colors and look of the bracelet. I added this blue button but then I found this cool pink glittery button and had to try it on the bracelet too. Which one do you like better? I really love them both!

I also want to mention that I used one of those big plastic packages that toilet paper rolls come in to complete this project. It had such pretty blue and pink colors and I was able to cut it into 1/2 inch wide strips and joined the ends just as I do here with my regular plarn (plastic bag yarn) making projects. So roundup some plastic and upcycle yourself this fashion bracelet. I guarantee that yours will be one of a kind and be a definite eco fashion statement when you wear it. Enjoy!

This project is completed by creating plastic bag yarn by cutting about 9 recycled plastic sacks into strips. If you are not familiar with the process, I have a picture tutorial found here that gives you all the details on creating plarn.

Have some produce nets that you wonder how you can recycle them? Want to reuse them in a handy and useful way? Well how about crocheting them in a useful scrubber pad.
Here are two scrubbies I crocheted using the plastic produce nets that lettuce and other veggies come in from your grocery store. Most of my produce nets are green but I have been given red, yellow, and orange colored ones from friends. The nice thing about using the recycled nets is that you don’t need but just a few to crochet a nice kitchen scrubbing pad. I crochet the nets along with cotton yarn to make a soft but firm textured surface.
You can use these scrubbers in the sink and bath tub without fear of scratching the surfaces. They also can be used on Teflon pans that have non-stick coatings as they are soft enough to not scratch the coated surfaces.
Depending on the size of scrubber pads you desire, at most you need 3 to 4 nets cut into strands for the larger scrubber shown. You join the strands together as shown in my produce net-cutting tutorial to create a recycled netting “yarn.” You then crochet the scrubbers using the netting yarn held together along with a strand of regular cotton yarn to make the scrubbies.
Okay got you hooked? Pun intend – so grab a crochet hook and check out the basic diagonal pattern below.

Here is my Easter basket that I created using recycled plastic bags and a plastic soap box strap.
This Easter basket was crocheted using plastic grocery bags to create yarn or plarn as shown here. I used a plastic soap holder strap that I took off a box shown below for my basket handle. I’m sure you’ve had one of these straps in the past and wondered what you could do with it. Well, I’m trying to find new ways to reuse and repurpose otherwise useless things. Using this plastic strap on my basket worked out very nicely.
Enjoy this recycled craft project and I wish you a very happy Easter!

I present my plarn fat bottom bag that I crocheted using recycled plastic newspaper bags. You may remember me saying that it is difficult for me to obtain pretty colors in plastic bags for my crafting. Well thanks to a suggestion from a blogger friend, I asked my local library to save their newspaper bags for me. They have been giving me one pink and one orange plastic bag daily from their newspapers. Anyway I saved up the plastic bags and crocheted my first fat bottom bag.
You may notice that the pink shade on the last few rounds of the bag and handles are darker. That was because the newspaper company changed the color of bags they were using. At first I was upset that I couldn’t finish my recycled bag using all the same color of pink but then once I was forced to use the darker bags, it turned out to be a nice contrast for the finished project.
As I mentioned this is my first fat bottom crocheted bag. The original pattern in written only in Portuguese. But there is an English chart and a wonderful tutorial including the lining over at Bend Beanies Blog which is a life saver. She has great pictures and helpful tips to help translate this awesome free pattern.
Below you will find some pictures I took as I worked the pattern.

Here is my newest recycled plastic bag tote. It is crocheted using 4 colorful bags for the center granny square motifs. If you have lots of white plastic bags, this is an excellent way to use them up and still make an attractive and stylish tote bag. You only need 4 solid colored bags to crochet this plarn project along with about 30 white plastic bags.
This granny square tote features two longer straps so the bag can be carried over the shoulder. The 4 inch depth makes it handy for carrying books, your lunch, or anything else that you might like to use this cute tote for.
As always, please enjoy my free crochet pattern and happy green crafting to all!
