Need a potholder pattern? Do you like your potholders heavy duty? If so this may be the potholder for you. Here is my basic potholder pattern that is crocheted with cotton yarn. It’s double layered and works well as a potholder or a pot pad. I designed it so it fits nicely under a casserole dish. It’s a quick, easy project and does make a wonderful gift idea. I know I have made several to include in some kitchen sets that I crocheted for the upcoming holidays.

My Greenie Pot Scrubber

Netting Prep3

I’m excited to share a little project that I have been experimenting with. You know those little green netting sleeves you get your lettuce in? Well, I’ve been trying to think of a good craft recycling project that I could do using the netting. Here is my result.

It is an eco-friendly greenie that you can scrub your dishes with. The cotton with the recycled green netting is very scratching and works well as a scrubbie. It measures 4-1/2″ by 4″.

Here is a mini tutorial on the prep for the green netting bags.

Lay out the green netting bag and I used a paper clip to hold the end closed.

Next cut the bag in strips across about 1 inch wide.

I’ve been on a bit of a dishcloth crocheting craze lately. Here is my latest creation. Its a crocheted cotton dishcloth or washcloth. I call it my pointed granny dishcloth.

My pointed granny dishcloth can be made with scrap cotton yarn as shown above in the second photo. It’s a great way to use up those small pieces of cotton you have in your stash. My pointed granny pattern is similar to my star dishcloth design below that features a center scrubbie option using plarn (plastic bag yarn) with 5 points.

Orange Potholders for Halloween

Orange Potholders for Halloween

I had an old vintage skein of craft yarn in my stash. This chunky orange yarn is from the late 70s and I thought it would be perfect to use to crochet some potholders for Halloween.

The square potholder was crocheted using my corded cloth pattern with a J (6 mm) crochet hook. Because this was a chunky yarn, I chained 23 stitches to start the hotpad and then single crocheted (Sc) in 2nd chain from hook and in each stitch across.

Picket Fence Dishcloth Pattern

Here is my latest open-stitched crocheted dishcloth pattern for those that like that style of a cloth. It reminds me of a picket fence and thus the name was given to this pattern. I added a crab stitch or reverse single crochet trim to finish off the dishcloth.

I hope you enjoy the free crochet pattern and happy crocheting to all!

Plarn Apron Pattern

Plarn Apron

I present my plarn apron which was crocheted from recycled plastic bags. Some time ago I had a request for an apron pattern and put it on my to-do list. I add project ideas to my list all the time in an effort to create a comprehensive library of free recycled craft patterns here at My Recycled Bags. So depending on what pattern you may be looking for, here is the link to all my free patterns. If you don’t find a pattern for something you would like to make, let me know and I will try and create a pattern for you.

Just a word a caution about this plarn apron, don’t use it around an open flame or bbq. It is plastic and would be best used to protect your clothing when washing the dog or maybe working around the house. If you’d like to waterproof it, consider fusing plastic bags to the back side as I did with my sit-upon project. Enjoy and happy crafting to all!

Plarn Plastic Bag Keeper

Plarn Plastic Bag Keeper

Here is a handy plastic bag keeper crocheted from what else — recycled plastic bags or plarn.

This project was crocheted using plastic bags made into plarn along with one strand of some fingering weight yarn I had to add color. You just crochet holding the plarn and the yarn together. I then trimmed the top and bottom edges using just the fingering yarn. I also used the fingering yarn to make the ties for the bag as shown. This project was a request for a teal or turquoise bag holder and since I can’t really find that color of plastic bags to recycle, I added this yarn that I got at a garage sale for just 25 cents. Anyway using regular yarn along with recycled plastic bags is a great way to add color and spice up those boring white bags.

Enjoy the project and free crochet pattern below.
